My paintings were first exhibited while I was living in New York and working as a fashion model. Strutting the catwalks of London and New York, was, way back then, very exciting but it could never compare to the exhilaration and pure pleasure I derive from painting. Painting is something I have to do, a bit like breathing.
My work is about distilling and conveying the transient moods of Cornwall, evoking the feeling of a place rather than depicting it. My painting style is original and distinctive and my palate ranges from calm tonal shades to outrageously colourful, maybe reflecting my mood or the season. My inspiration is drawn from the beaches around St Ives and the extraordinarily clean light of the Penwith peninsular. In my semi abstracted seascapes I use, contrast and texture to capture movement, the essence of the sea. While my abstract paintings give voice to my enthusiasm and lust for life. All my paintings always express my insatiable passion for painting.
It is my belief that art shouldn’t be pretentious, or full of hidden meaning. A painting is, after all, simply something to hang on the wall. But, just like your favourite music, I feel a painting should move you in some way. It should draw you in. Oh dear, now I am beginning to sound pretentious, sorry about that but I’m sure you get the gist. Basically I would hope my paintings are something you enjoy living with, not just something that matches the curtains.
